Playground
-
Students are to stay within the designated school playground boundaries and
play away from: the parking lot, the front/side of the school, the bicycle
racks and the portable classrooms. Students are not to play below the end of
the track or near the baseball diamond.
- St. John Brebeuf Catholic School has an integrated yard, i.e. students
of all grades can play in any part of the school yard, with the exception of
the JK and K area
- Bicycles are to be walked on and off school property and
kept locked. Bicycles are the responsibility of the child. The school will
not assume responsibility for damages or theft of bicycles. It is
recommended that students in primary grades do not ride their bicycles to
school.

Students are to ask permission to leave school grounds (to retrieve balls,
etc. on
private property or near roadways).
- Students are not to use the following equipment on school grounds: hard
balls, hockey sticks, lacrosse sticks, skateboards, roller blades, scooters,
sleds, or other potentially hazardous designated items.
- Students are encouraged to select and choose games and activities that
are non contact in nature.

Students are to request permission from the staff member on duty in order to
enter the school.
- Students are to use the assigned walkways, to enter or leave the school
property
- It is recommended that students wear appropriate clothing for weather
conditions, as students are expected to take part in outdoor recess on most
days.
Creative
Play Structure
Direct adult supervision is required in order for students to play on the
Creative Play Structure. The Equipment will not be in use from November - April.
General Rules

No pushing
- No running
- Take turn
- No fighting
- If someone is injured, report this to a playground supervisor
immediately. Do not move this person.
- No throwing stones, sticks or other objects
- No chewing gum while on the playground equipment
- No eating while on the playground equipment
- No tag or running games
Weather Conditions- Rainy Weather - playground equipment
is off limits
- Snowy Weather - playground equipment is off limits
Clothing
- Scarfs are not be worn when playing on playground
equipment.

Loose strings can get caught on equipment. They must be tied securely or
removed.
Monkey Bars
- Take turns
- Hold on with BOTH hands
- Only one person on at a time
Slides
- Students are to travel down the slide feet first/no headfirst sliding
- Take turns
- Before sliding down be sure no one is at the bottom of the slide
- Students must sit while sliding
- No playing at the top of the slide
- No walking up the slide
- No pushing
The consequence for any inappropriate activity is that the child will be told to
leave the play structure area.
